Learning to drive is the answer to many travel problems. Rising rail costs and unreliable bus services mean that more and more people are taking the car on their journeys. To help with the cost of learning we offer student discounts, discounts for block bookings and can even arrange for a surprise pick up if you plan to purchase lessons as a gift. You will not share your lesson with anyone else and your instructor will be punctual and can pick you up from wherever is convenient to you.

Our instructors are all Advanced Driving Instructors and hold the relevant industry-led qualifications. They know the area well and have knowledge of the roads around the test centres. They are professional, patient and fun! It is proven that you will learn more effectively if you are enjoying what you are doing! We offer “pay as you go” lessons which can be booked individually or in a block at a discounted rate that can be taken weekly. We also have intensive driving courses which condense the learning process into a short but rigorous few weeks. It’s great if you want to learn in a hurry for some reason. And of course we offer the more traditional method of weekly / regular driving lessons.
If you are new to driving, you will need to obtain your provisional driving licence first. When your lessons begin and you grow in knowledge, skill and experience you will then be advised to apply for your theory test. This is made up of 2 parts; the multiple choice section and the hazard perception section. You will need to pass both parts in order to pass your theory test. They are both computer based tests and they test your overall road knowledge and your speed at dealing with hazards in everyday driving situations.
Your practical test will last around 40 minutes and will be with an examiner from a local test centre. The centres in Birmingham are as follows : Shirley, Sutton Coldfield, South Yardley, Kings Heath, Kingstanding and Garretts Green. Your eyesight will be tested, you’ll be asked safety questions and of course there will be a practical driving section where you will show your independent driving skills.
When you have passed your test you may want to take a Pass Plus course. It focusses on areas such as town / country driving and motorway driving. It is great for added experience and some insurance companies offer lower premiums for people who have taken this type of course – worth a go! We have a large amount of successful pupils come back and take ths course with us after the L plates have come off!
All Andy1st cars are dual-controlled and are replaced every 3 years. This ensures all of our pupils learn smoothly in reliable, safe and comfortable cars. In the unlikely event there are any problems with the car, it will be replaced within 24 hours making sure you don't miss any tuition or, even worse, your test. We can provide lessons in both manual and automatic cars.
We pride ourselves on providing quality coaching but in addition we are dedicated to ensuring our pupils leave the test centre with a pass certificate and the confidence and diligence to be a safe road user. Being aware of what’s around you is as important and we build on other skills other than just knowing where the pedals are! All through your lessons we are preparing you for your tests which we will help you with every step of the way.
